Sathabhishekam

Sathabhishekam is a Hindu ritual that is performed to celebrate the completion of 84 years of age. The word “Sathabhishekam” is derived from the Sanskrit words “Satha” meaning “eighty” and “abhishekam” meaning “ceremony”. This ritual is performed once in a lifetime by a Hindu person, it’s a celebration of completing the age of 80 years. The ritual is considered to be very auspicious and is performed to seek blessings from the gods and to ensure a peaceful life in old age.

During the Sathabhishekam ceremony, the person celebrating their 80th birthday is bathed and dressed in new clothes, and a pooja or prayer ceremony is performed in their honor. Offerings such as fruits, coconuts, and flowers are made to the gods, and mantras are recited by a Hindu priest. The person celebrating their 80th birthday is then given blessings by family and friends, and they may also distribute gifts to the poor.
