Sashtiapthapoorthi is a Hindu ritual that is performed to celebrate the completion of 60 years of age. The word “Sashtiapthapoorthi” is derived from the Sanskrit words “Sashti” meaning “sixty” and “apthapoorthi” meaning “completion of the age”. This ritual is performed once in a lifetime by a Hindu person, it’s a celebration of completing the age of 60 years.

The Sashtiapthapoorthi pooja is a grand and elaborate ceremony that usually takes place in the presence of family, friends and community members. It is generally performed at the temple or at home with the guidance of a Hindu Priest. During the ceremony, the person celebrating their 60th birthday is bathed, dressed in new clothes and adorned with traditional jewelry.

A pooja or a prayer ceremony is performed, during which various offerings are made to the gods, such as coconuts, fruits, and sweets. The person celebrating their 60th birthday is then given blessings by family and friends, and they may also distribute gifts to the poor.

Sashtiapthapoorthi is considered an important ritual in Hindu culture, as it marks the completion of a significant milestone in one’s life and is believed to bring good luck and blessings for a peaceful and prosperous old age.
